SWIFTS IN THE MEDIA

The article below appeared in a regional newspaper (the Gelderlander). I don't know who wrote/inspired the article, but I'm guessing it was someone in the Klaassen family from Groesbeek (see Henk Klaassen's website. The Swift is pictured upside down... A translation of the article can be found here.

The article on the left appeared in a local news/add-paper (the Rozet) on july 24th. It's based heavily on an email I'd sent to them (it's pretty much the email with some minor modifications). I didn't know it'd be placed just like that, and obviously, I did not provide them with the picture they placed... A nice article though, of which a translation can be found here.
I emailed the Rozet about the picture not being a Swift, and I sent along a picture of a Swift I took myself. On august 7th the article on the right appeared in the Rozet (click here for a translation). :)

The article I wrote (see below) appeared in a local news/add-paper (the Rozet) today. Click here for a translation.

I wrote an article about the Ziekerstraat-project and sent it to local newspaper De Brug a while ago. A picture was taken by a professional photographer a bit later and the article below appeared in De Brug's edition of october 1st. There are a couple of mistakes in the article I'd like to correct for those that can read Dutch. My name is Jochem Kuhnen, not Jochem van Kuhnen. :) And the company that owns the building is not called Dorgas BV but Dorvas BV. I've corrected these mistakes in the translation.

I appeared in a TV show today. We don't have a tv anymore, but I was able to see the show on the internet. Unfortunately, it's no longer available online. Thanks to the people at TV Gelderland who made the show I've got it on DVD though.

An article I wrote appeared in the Mourik part 3 of 2008. The Mourik is the magazine of Nijmegen and surroundings' bird workgroup.

Another article I wrote appeared in Mourik (part 2 of 2009), the magazine of Nijmegen and surroundings' bird workgroup.

I wrote an article about the Hessenberg-project and sent it to the regional newspaper De Gelderlander on December 3rd 2009. A couple of days later I was contacted by someone from De Gelderlander to make an appointment. I met with the reporter on December 9th at the Hessenberg site. A photographer took a picture of me that was very similar to the one that appeared in local newspaper De Brug October 1st 2008. The reporter conducted an interview so he could write his own story. He called me a couple of times the following days to ask some details and for some pictures. On December the article as shown below appeared in De Gelderlander. A very pleasant surprise to see it got so much space in the newspaper and that such a nice colourful and informative image was made. I hope I'll be able to present a translation in some time.

Another article I wrote appeared in Mourik (part 3 of 2009), the magazine of Nijmegen and surroundings' bird workgroup.

I contacted regional newspaper Gelderlander after learning 40 nest bricks will be built into several buildings around a square in the middle of Nijmegen's city centre. It was a phone call and it sounded like the person on the other end of the phone was busy typing away as I was telling my story, but it turned into a small article only. Oh well, nice anyway. The picture below is as it appeared on the website of Gelderlander. In the hard copy of the newspaper there was no photo of a Swift.

After an interview with journalist Job van der Meer from regional newspaper Gelderlander on May 17th 2010, the article below appeared in the Betuwe edition of that newspaper on May 20th 2010. The Swift is upside down because the image was in the archive of the Gelderlander like that and it wasn't noticed that this was wrong. Also, below the image it is stated the Swift can be recognized by it's completely grey plumage while the plumage of a Swift is dark brown with a light throat patch. There's not a single mistake in the main piece though and it's fun to read and provides useful information, so I'm quite satisfied with the result.

I found out on June 2nd that the nest bricks of the Hessenberg have been discovered by the Swifts! Would've liked to see a nice and long article on that of course, but alas... Read more about the Hessenberg project on this page in the projects section. Also, same goes for the picture below as for the one above: it shows the article as it appeared on the website of Gelderlander. In the hard copy of the newspaper there was no photo of a Swift.

Another article about the success of the Hessenberg project, this time in local newspaper Dé Weekkrant De Brug.

And yet another article about the success of the Hessenberg project, this time in a smaller local newspaper De Rozet, but with a lot of background info on Swifts.

I wrote an article as this year's 'yearbird' of the Bird Workgroup Nijmegen is, just like last year, the Common Swift. I'd sent it out to a lot of small papers and newspapers, below is one of the very few I know it was printed in, in De Partituur, paper for the Neerbosch-Oost district in Nijmegen.

A large article I wrote about the success of my own nest boxes appeared in local paper De Rozet today! :)

An article I wrote appeared in local newspaper Dé Weekkrant De Brug. I originally wrote an article much longer, but had to shorten it to about 200 words. The original article I wrote was 546 or something... Haha, woops...

An article about the Swift nest bricks that were placed in several building blocks of project De MaasWaal in Nijmegen appeared in regional newspaper Gelderlander today.
